What I’m using for project collaboration, Zoho.com

Nov 27, 2008 in Service Reviews

I’ve been on a quest to find something to replace my former project tool, Backpack. Backpack admittedly was not a project tool, but a wiki for people who don’t do wikis.  I was using it for the price, but I dumped it because its collaboration capabilities were somewhat weak. I always had trouble getting people to sign in and look at what I was sending.  You get what you pay for.

Zoho.com seems to work. I’ve gotten the people I’ve needed signed in and using the site. We share project info using the Projects feature. And we can author docs using the docs feature. I have hardly explored the rest, but it does what I need for now. For free, you get one project. I will eventually pay for this when I get funding for one of my projects. Until then, give it a try. I am happier with it than say, Google Docs, despite the convenience of gdocs.  Gdocs has some flakiness, and non-techies seem to have a problem remembering where and how to find the documents I share.  I will post a follow up on the other tool I use, pbwiki.com.
